Every year, we celebrate Guru Purnima to show our love and respect to our Gurus (teachers and guides). This special day falls on the full moon day (Purnima) in the month of Ashadha (June–July).

Why do we celebrate Guru Purnima?
Guru Purnima is celebrated to honour all the teachers who guide us, support us, and help us become better humans. On this day, we remember Maharishi Ved Vyasa, the great sage who wrote the Mahabharata and organised the Vedas. That is why this day is also known as Vyasa Purnima.
In Indian tradition, a Guru holds a very special place, sometimes even above God. A Guru helps us understand right from wrong and shows us the path to success and happiness.

Importance of Guru Purnima
A Guru is like a lamp that lights up the darkness in our lives. They give us knowledge, teach us values, and inspire us to reach our goals. On this day, students thank their teachers by offering flowers, gifts, or simply saying “Thank you.”
Guru Purnima reminds us that we should always respect our teachers and never stop learning. It is a day to reflect on our progress and promise ourselves to follow the lessons given by our Gurus with sincerity and dedication.

गुरु गोविन्द दोउ खड़े, काके लागूं पाय।
बलिहारी गुरु आपने, गोविन्द दियो बताय॥
Meaning: When Guru and God both stand before me, whose feet should I touch first? I bow to my Guru first because he is the one who showed me the path to God.

What can we do on this day?
✅ Thank your teachers and parents for their guidance.
✅ Promise to study sincerely and follow good values.
✅ Spend some time reading or learning something new.
✅ Help others and share your knowledge.
Doha by Rahim ji
रहिमन पानी राखिये, बिन पानी सब सून।
पानी गए ना उबरे, मोती, मानुष, चून॥
Meaning: Just like water is essential for pearls, human life, and flour, respect (symbolised here as ‘pani’) is necessary for relationships and learning. Without it, everything becomes empty.

Let us all take this day to express our gratitude to every person who has helped us learn and grow. May we continue to gain knowledge and spread kindness everywhere!
Wishing you all a very Happy Guru Purnima! 🌕🙏
